A Butterfly My Hands Can Never Hold

from animal-wallpaper.com
I was so smitten with a cute girl back in college, which gave me the inspiration to write this poem. It speaks of my great desire to take care of her but not as a friend, yet I am afraid to pursue it because she might not feel the same way. I felt then that I was contented communicating with her, and to exert great effort to see her occasionally because we are miles apart. At least she remains present in my life although I know that she is not mine. Circumstances came between, and the next thing I knew, she was already gone.

A small butterfly flew by my window
It walks in its feet, each up to its toe
Beneath its wings, I have seen love glow
A charm that uplifts me when I feel low

It looks so confused on where it should head
Will it go to my chest or fly to my bed
It flopped its wings and stayed instead
With its teary eyes, a tale has been said

I want to let go of all the pains in the past
Yet I felt afraid that this love might not last
What should I do with this pink butterfly?
Should I wait in vain and let time pass by?

I want to touch it, I want to try
But if I do so, away it might fly
I'd rather not have my desire be told
So I won't lose the butterfly...
My hands can never hold.
