The Essence of a Broken Heart

Isn't it funny that many of us believe that falling in love is like being on Cloud Nine, yet when certain eventualities turn our expectations into disappointments, we find ourselves falling down, deep into the Earth's inner core, embracing all the pain and sadness?

Yes, nobody wants to be heartbroken, but heartbreak is inevitable. You can consider yourself truly lucky if you find your destiny at first attempt. But otherwise, prepare for the day when pain will tear your heart apart.  Each of us experiences heartbreak in one way or another. But still, many of us fail to understand and grasp the significance of heartbreak in our lives.

Heartbreak serves as a baptismal of fire that makes us realize that life is a journey of surprises and unexpected twists. The person you cherish most today might no longer be with you tomorrow. The classmate that you hate so much might be the father of your kids someday. The fat girl you have mistreated in your college years might have metamorphed into a beautiful beauty queen, and then you'll cry buckets of tears because you realized that you have feelings for her, but she's no longer interested with you.

Heartbreak is the most painful result of missed chances. Chances that were already staring us in the face yet we neglect since we choose to look farther. And then one begin to ponder and remember the little sweet nothings that would have happened: if only you have appreciated your boyfriend writing you poetry and did not call him corny; if only you remembered your monthsary; if only you told her that she's the most beautiful girl in the world; if only you verbalized how you liked him losing that little weight and looking good.

What if's-from regrets. Pile this up and one gets a lingering heartbreak. When the love has ended, we are left with nothing but two things: Questions and Memories. Memories of how we became our best self, and felt how it is to love and be loved by someone that is not of your own flesh and blood; and questions, which serves as a way of recognizing that there are things we failed to do, chose not to do, and wished we never did, all of which led to where we stand today.

Many have tried to define what heartbreak is, but like love, it is as mystical and as incomprehensible as College Algebra can be. Heartbreak is surely painful, but then again, it also reminds us of the presence of people whom we can run to in the darkest moments of our lives. People who will wholeheartedly love and accept us, and make sure that we will stand again to begin a new journey- our friends and family.

Heartbreak is indeed a painful experience. But it can also make us realize our potentials and do what we felt was unthinkable. Some become successful and powerful beyond measure. Others realize that they can change and love themselves more, because being beautiful and happy are the best ways to avenge a fallen heart.

We must never be afraid to love. Life is nothing without love, but life is not everything about love. When we choose to love, we put the other half of our hearts at the pit of looming heartbreak.

When two hearts unite, sure enough, there is one heart that breaks into a million pieces.

Heartbreak ends Love, but it also signifies the beginning of a better and prudent journey. A better life begins after a heartbreak.

I just decided to use my energy to do what I have always wanted to do, but didn't have much time. Thank you Clarisse. You are the very first person to post a comment here.
