Theory of Two Destinies
When I was a child, this was a
thought that I have always had. A question about life’s tricky curves which
leads us to fulfillment or disappointment. Frankly speaking, I was afraid to
speak about it because other people might think that I am weird, because a
young kid, no matter how limitless his imagination can be, would still look
bizarre thinking of these things. But now that I have come of age, and after
years of trying to observe people’s lives and comparing them, I have finally
gathered the courage to answer one of life’s biggest questions.
When we talk about human destiny,
we will foray into the age-old debate which proves or questions the role of
luck into our lives.
Have you ever wondered why there
are people who had to work and give more than what they can just to reach their
goals in life, but in the end, find themselves on the bottom of the career
ladder?
Have you also thought about why
there are people who lack many things in life, yet earn their way on top of
their game with the blink of an eye?
Well, in my opinion, each of us is
destined to become somebody even before we were born. But contrary to the claim
of most philosophers, I believe that each of us has not only one BUT TWO
possible destinies. These two destinies are extremes of each other, and it is
our decisions in life which will eventually lead to one of these destinies.
One profound example of which is a
student trying to decide what course to pursue in college. He is torn between
Communication Arts and Commerce. If we were to base it in the theory of two
destinies, he can become either a businessman or an artist. The final verdict
would be based upon his decisions, internal and external influences that will
affect his actions. If in high school, he realizes that he is more inclined
with the arts, and decides to develop it more, then he is fulfilling his first
destiny. Otherwise, he will become the second.
Another example is an employee
beating a deadline. He has 1 day to pass a 15-page comprehensive report on a
project of their company. He is destined to either be commended or reprimanded
based on whether he can make it or not. But certainly, one destiny is not
predetermined to him alone.
My theory both supports the polar
philosophies of “What is to happen will happen” and “It is I who is the captain
of my ship”. Before we were born, we were destined to either become comfortable
or impoverished, vivacious or meek, successful or simple- despite the many
arteries on a highway, each of us are only faced with two roads, and our
decisions and actions will determine further which road are we going to embark
on.
What the Theory of Two Destinies tells us
Deriving the lessons from this theory, one can find out that:
1. No man was born to succeed or fail alone.
2. Opportunities have limitations.
3. Hard work and perseverance determines our destiny.
I am pretty sure that I will be
raising eyebrows here. But its alright. I finally decided to post this theory
because I want to hear points of view. Real ones, and not bound on fallacies
which only hamper our understanding of the possibility of human life on earth.
Whether the theory of two destinies
is a reality nobody knows, or just one of the insanities popping out of this
crazy writer’s head, only YOU can tell. Look into your life, and see whether
its real or not.
