The Gold In Gratitude
Many of
us are dreamers. We have our personal desires and aspirations that we want to
achieve at the soonest possible time. Be it our dream job, dream home, dream
car, dream partner- every single word that we can attach the word “dream” with
is definitely in our wish list.
But
most of us are impatient when all our dreams are not translating in the way we
want it to happen in our lives. These dreams, which should have been the source
of our inspiration, have become the cause of frustration and depression because
they remain trapped inside of us, contrary to our goal of unleashing them and
making them part of our reality.
Have
you asked yourself why there are many hardworking people trotting the globe,
yet they remain unfulfilled with the life that they have?
Last
Sunday afternoon, I was able to throw my shoes, bring out some pringles, open
my laptop and watch the controversial docufilm “The
Secret” written by Rhonda Bryne. It
tells us that the power of our minds are endless. It tells the viewers that the
power of the mind is truly infinite, and it is the only tool for us to realize
anything we want in life.
There
are many lessons that I have learned from the said film, but what struck me
most among the many lessons that I learned from it is this: We can’t have
anything new if we are not grateful for what we already have.
Simple.
True. Hits down to the very core.
Most of
us often dream of a new house, when in fact, we never even appreciated the
strength and cozy atmosphere of our present home.
Most of
us want to indulge in exquisite cuisine, when in fact, we haven’t even
thanked the Lord for still putting food our table every single day.
Most of
us say that we hate our gadgets because they are not functioning properly, when
in fact, the person beside us is left in a time capsule with his Nokia 3210.
Gratitude
is perhaps one of the most enlightening values in the world. It can be
expressed in two simple words: Thank You.
When we
express our gratitude, we fill other people up with enlightenment and
verification that the role they play in our lives is highly appreciated. Saying
thank you even for little reasons still has big impact.
After
watching The Secret, I immediately bought a 500-page thick notebook, a golden
wrapper, and new pens to begin writing my Gratitude Journal.
It made
me realize that despite my complaints of what was missing in my life, there
were so many things that I should be thankful for. I couldn’t help
but feel astonished while listing down these things which I should be more than
thankful for.
I have
finally unearthed the Gold in Gratitude. True enough, when we express it by
either saying Thank You or even with a simple smile, we validate and give joy
to others.
There
is Gold in Gratitude, and Thank You is the best salve for one’s soul.
